I .Sichuan Statistical Yearbook 2002 is the 15th volume of Sichuan Statistical Yearbook, an annual statistics publication to reflect various aspects of Sichuan's economic and social development, which has been published in public since 1988. Sichuan Statistical Yearbook 2002 covers very comprehensive data series in 2001 and some selected data series in historically important years and the most recent years at provincial level, local levels of prefecture and level of county. The development of Sichuan's society and economy after the 14th National Congress of Communist Party and the 15th National Congress of Communist Party are stressed in chapter 2, and statistics on major countries and territories is added in appendix this year.

II. Sichuan Statistical Yearbook 2002, in which the part of city construction is added newly this year, contains the twenty one parts. Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators is attached to the end of each chapter as a helpful tool for readers to understand and use statistical data in this book.

III. The units of measurement used in this book are internationally standard measurement units.

IV. The concepts, definitions and coverage of statistics of some data in this book have been adjusted, which are not comparable with former years, therefore some notes are added in this book. Users are alerted to the notes about the difference in the concepts, definitions and coverage of statistics when using and comparing data in this book.
