Ⅰ. Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2008, is an annual statistics publication, which reflects various aspects of national economic and social development in Shanxi province. Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2008 covers very comprehensive data series in 2007 at provincial level and local levels of city , county and department , reflects social and economic as well as science and technology development of Shanxi province. To meet the need of international exchange, an English-Chinese has been made in the book.

Foreign Trade and Tourism; 13. Public Finance, Banking and Insurance; 14. Education, Science and Technology; 15. Culture, Sports, Public Health and Environmental Protection; 16. Information of City; 17. Part of Prefecture ; 18. Part of County and City; 19. Part of Enterprises. In addition, Statistical Chart reflecting total trend is attached at every chapter, Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators—a brief introduction about the meaning, data sources, statistical coverage, statistical methods and historical changes of main statistical indicators—are provided at the end of each part.
Ⅲ.Comparing with Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2007, this yearbook is made revising as fellow :
1. Comprehensive Chapter: according to the second agricultural census data for 2006 related to value added production data have been adjusted;
2. Rural Economy Chapter: according to the second agricultural census data for 2006 sown area of crops, output of major crops, and other data have been adjusted;
3. Finance and Insurance Chapter: according to the new financial statistical standards, the financial expenditure items were larger adjusted; financial institutions increase by RMB deposits and loans and RMB savings deposits balance of urban and rural residents;
4. Culture, Sports, Health and Environmental Protection Chapter: according to the reform of the system of environmental protection, environmental protection part of the 2006 target data have been adjusted, according to health system reform, the related to indicators have been adjusted;
5. Regional Chapter: increase in some statistics which are life expectancy of the population in major years, energy consumption and power consumption of 10,000 yuan of GDP and above-scale industrial added value, the financial total revenue indicators, deleted deposits and loans of the National Bank.
6. Part of County and City Chapter: increasing related indicators of rural basic conditions and agricultural production.
7. Explain Indicators: population, employment and labor remuneration, the rural economy, wholesale and retail trade and catering industry and the financial and insurance chapters increase and adjust the related indicators.
Ⅳ.On the whole, the concepts, definitions and coverage of statistics in indicators in this book are the same as in the current statistics report system of our country. The major data sources of this book are obtained from annual statistical reports, some from sample surveys and some from statistics materials provided by relative economical administrative departments.
Ⅴ.For the convenience of the readers, brief notes concerning some indicators about their changes in meaning or coverage are given at the lower part of relevant tables. In the case of some statistical data issued before being inconsistent with this publication, take the data in this publication as correction.
Ⅵ.The units of measurement used in this book are internationally standard measurement units.
Ⅶ.Statistical discrepancies due to rounding are not adjusted in this yearbook.
