Amidst the busy marketplaces and thoroughfares, you will find charming canals and green parks for the city’s residents to enjoy.
As the focus of global economic growth has shifted to the Asia-Pacific region in recent decades, Shanghai is poised to play a key role in China’s ascent as a responsible global leader. The city already hosts the headquarters of multinational corporations and global financial institutions. With its many universities, museums and artistic venues, Shanghai is also a crossroads for intellectual and cultural life.
Thus, the process of urban development and planning in Shanghai is not only intended to benefit Shanghai’s 25 million residents, but also to facilitate the city’s growth as a vital center of global exchange.
With this in mind, the present master plan for Shanghai’s development in 2017— 2035 has set the following three priorities:
