Peking University's Center for International and Strategic Studies aims to enhance academicand policy research in the fields of world politics, international security, and strategic studies. Itprovides analyses of China's changing international environment and the international strategies of major powers, publishes and submits policy-relevant and timely research works. CISSaspires to offer intellectual support to China's international strategy formulation, to enrichteaching, and to help the general public understand national and international security and strategic issues from a comprehensive, accurate and rational perspective. CISS issues a variety ofpublications, including a regular briefing series entitled International Strategic Studies Report,occasional monographs, the annual China International Strategy Review, and its own in-housebook series. 
In the globalizing world, political, economic, military, technological, cultural, religious andsocial issues increasingly interact and overlap with one another. Problems related to the environment, public health, natural disasters and other non-traditional security issues have becomeincreasingly pressing. CISS shapes its work according to the multi-disciplinary nature of theseproblems and encourages theoretical and methodological innovation.Founded in 2007 and under the administration of Peking University, CISS is headed by anExecutive Council chaired by a vice-president of Peking University and comprised of wellestablished scholars and experts from various Chinese institutions. CISS research projects andactivities are coordinated through an Academic Committee comprised of CISS members.Since its establishment, CISS has published a number of influential monographs, translationsand proceedings, many as part of projects sponsored by China's Ministry of Education and theNational Social Sciences Research Fund, on subjects like "Forecasting China's InternationalStrategic Environment" and "International Relations Theory and China's Diplomacy." CISShas undertaken various assigned tasks as one of the three "key partners" for the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, CISS has also worked withthe CPC Central Committee's Office for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense,the CPC Central Committee's International Department, the PLA National Defense University and the PLA Academy of Military Sciences to provide targeted research, policy advice andpersonnel training. In 2010, CISS received an award for outstanding research from Peking University's Office of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
